RECENT PROJECTS

John Bone has delivered a number of complex energy related projects over the last 20 years across a range of different disciplines as evidenced below:

Renewables/Waste Development

John led the Wilton 11 ‘energy from waste’ project for Sembcorp to bid and win the contract to build a renewable power station and the UK’s largest waste transfer station. John led the process for the many project agreements and managed many aspects of the joint venture including the raising of over £300m of funding. The project will create 75 long term jobs and the construction of the facility is now well underway.

 - Accreditation for RHI and RO’
 - Support in biomass procurement

Renewable Biomass Development

John negotiated and subsequently managed the biomass purchase contracts (350,000 tonnes per annum of wood) for a North East based renewable power station. These contracts have provided security of supply, good fuel quality and excellent value for money. In addition, John has lobbied the UK Government and Ofgem directly and successfully regarding legislation, renewables policy and accreditation issues.

Power Purchase Agreement

John recently successfully negotiated the power purchase agreement for a 10 MW Photovoltaic (PV) installation to supply supply a major car factory and to qualify for ROCs under the “permitted ways” provisions of the Renewables Obligation to maximise financial benefit.

Conventional Energy (including combined heat & power)

John set-up and operated a licenced electricity supply company which involved satisfying Ofgem and establishing agreements with Elexon and the National Grid. John remained a director of this company for over 10 years and it required his personal expertise in dealing with all of the technical and regulatory aspects of energy trading and supply.

John recently prequalified a large scale gas fired CHP plant for the Capacity Mechanism and is currently engaged by a major waste company to advise aspects of their strategy regarding Electricity Market Reform.

Energy Procurement

John has undertaken a wide range of projects in energy procurement including the following:

•  Assisting the UK’s largest electricity buyer make savings of over £5m per annum

•  Purchased coal, gas and oil at lowest total cost delivering £3m of value

•  Negotiated to buy 200 MW of power for 15 years from a new power station which was subsequently constructed resulting in substantial energy cost reductions

•  Modernised a company’s engineering procurement function following the sale of the business, including the introduction of new staff and systems

More recently, John has pre-qualified a gas fired CCGT CHP scheme for the Capacity Mechanism, provided advice on ERM strategy to a multi-national client and he is currently offering guidance on a biomass project. In addition, he is in the process of developing PPA’s and ROC contracts and performing the accreditation for the Renewables Obligation for a major renewable project.
